I first discovered Solvang the way many people probably do — watching a Hallmark movie around the holidays. Picture-perfect streets, twinkling lights, half-timbered buildings, and the kind of small-town magic that feels almost too charming to be real. So when I realized Solvang was an actual place nestled in California’s Santa Ynez Valley, I knew I had to experience it for myself — especially at Christmastime.Solvang was founded in 1911 by a group of Danish-Americans looking to preserve their heritage. The result? A village that feels like a European storybook town — complete with windmills, traditional Danish bakeries, and festive decor that turns up a notch during the holidays. Obviously.You can’t visit Solvang without stopping at one of its famous Danish bakeries — we grabbed a few flaky kringles and æbleskivers (round pancake-like treats) dusted with powdered sugar. We paused in the square to take it in, the tones ringing out over cobblestone sidewalks and couples bundled up with cocoa in hand.We wandered in and out of gift shops, each one packed with unique finds — from Scandinavian ornaments and handcrafted candles to gnome decor and puppets (yes, we bought a couple). Beyond Bend: A Christmas Day Trip to Solvang

We just got back from the most fun, full, and beautiful 9-day road trip through Southern Oregon and Northern California. From redwoods to cityscapes, farm stays to theme parks, this route had a little bit of everything. Waking up with cows just outside our door was such a fun and unique experience for the kids. It was such a lovely change of pace after the chaos of Six Flags, and the views were just as good as the wine.&nbsp; Day 9: The Long Drive HomeAfter nine days of adventure, we buckled in for the full 8-hour drive back to Bend. It was a long haul, but completely worth it after a trip this full of memories.

Beyond Bend: 9-Day Road Trip Through Southern Oregon & Northern California

From iconic landmarks to simple joys like grabbing coffee and watching ferries roll in, here’s how we love to spend a weekend in Seattle.&nbsp; Pike Place Market &amp; Post AlleyNo trip to Seattle is complete without a morning at Pike Place Market. We love walking through the stalls, grabbing mini donuts and fresh fruit, and catching the famous fish toss. It's a sensory overload in the best way. Beyond Bend: A Weekend In Seattle

If you're looking for the perfect fall weekend trip from Bend, I can’t recommend the Hood River Fruit Loop enough. After 8 months of RV life, we've gotten pretty good at spotting the gems, and this one is packed with everything we love—fresh cider, alpacas, cozy farm stores, and some of the best orchard views in Oregon. We made it a two-day trip, exploring each side of the loop separately, and it was the perfect mix of relaxation, adventure, and tasty stops.&nbsp; Day 1: South Side Loop — Draper Girls, Lavender Fields &amp; Cider Sippin’We started our fall loop heading south from Hood River on Highway 35, taking the quieter, orchard-lined east side of the Fruit Loop. Our first stop was Draper Girls Country Farm, where the mountain views were as good as the apple cider slushies. Even in the fall, the fields still carried that calming lavender scent, and the peaceful picnic tables offered some of the best views of Mt. Hood we’ve ever seen. We also stopped at a nearby alpaca farm—adorable and unexpectedly relaxing.In the afternoon, we wrapped up our loop at Mt. View Orchards &amp; Cidery. The tasting area was beautiful, the cider flights were fun, and the Honeycrisp cider was a standout. We picked a few more apples (because why not?) and sat for a while just soaking in the scenery. We stocked up on jams, salsas, and a mini pie for the road.Then we headed into Hood River for a ride on the Mount Hood Railroad. The historic train took us through colorful orchards and small farms, and it was such a fun, low-key way to see the area. We also squeezed in a visit to the Hutson Museum. This barn-red local history gem sits at the southern terminus of the railroad and features rocks, minerals, Native American artifacts, and pioneer relics—all curated with big local pride. Having our own supplies meant we weren’t stuck overpaying at campground shops or hoping the vending machine had what we needed. It might sound simple, but being ready to do laundry without scrambling for change or detergent makes the whole process way less stressful.After months of living on the road, we realized that the little things make a big difference. From staying organized with tension rods and stacking cookware, to keeping things cozy and functional with a dehumidifier, compact appliances, and smart laundry prep—each of these products helped our tiny space feel more like home. RV life isn’t always glamorous, but with the right gear, it’s a whole lot smoother (and more enjoyable). These are the items we leaned on daily—and we wouldn’t hit the road again without them.
